Ampersandwiched Literature

The Ampwich

A tumblr dedicated to children’s and young adult literature featuring authors and dynamic characters who abide in the margins and squeezed places. Moving beyond the stereotypes to portray characters of color, who are LGBT, who defy traditional gender roles, who fulfill more than the “magical disabled person” role. The majority of this tumblr will be reblogs, with very little of my own content.

Book Reviews

A section of this website for reading, reviewing, analyzing, and discussing children’s and young adult literature featuring authors and characters who occupy the squeezed and marginalized parts of society. This will form the foundation for my thesis work.

My work has been inspired and informed by the Deaf Characters in Adolescent Literature project, by Sharon Pajka, Ph.D. at Gallaudet University.

If you have a book you would like to recommend for review or inclusion in the project, submit your suggestions here.

ISDB Projects

Romeo and Juliet

I am the assistant director for the Blind/Visually Impaired department’s production of an adapted R&J, to be staged in April. I am using my minor in Theatre from Augie and my Shakespeare prowess gleaned from a summer internship in 2006 to overcompensate for the fact that I have no idea how to work with blind students who are carrying swords.

Personal Projects

April Showers: A Memoir of Dementia

The awkward journey of walking the border between memory and dementia, life and death, as I wrestle with the genetic legacy of my family and navigate the scramblings of my own grey matter. Expected draft completion Summer 2015.
